Tigers V Sharks Pre-Season Friendly

FOOTY's BACK

It was a chilly Autumn morning that greeted both clubs this morning with the weather improving throughout the day and reaching a warm 25 degrees for the later games. In the first proper hit out for most players, there was a bit of rustiness and a few errors on show but the standard of footy across all teams was pleasingly high.

Today was not about results (fortunately as we had a number of defeats) and today we were able to celebrate a number of firsts for Tigers players. Ten players played their first ever rugby league game and eight players celebrated their first ever try for the Tigers. Congratulations to the Cronulla Caringbah Sharks who were just too quick, too strong and too organised for our Tigers this week. We have plenty of work to do in the remaining weeks before season kick-off, but we are confident that we will see a marked improvement over the coming weeks, as players return from Easter Holidays and game day will be less daunting for new players.

A Big Tigers thank you to Gerome, Michelle, Darren, Amanda and Glen for doing a great job on the BBQ and in the Canteen and also to Shane, Tyler and David for setting up the ground. Thank you to all parents who lent a hand today and we look forward to seeing you next week.

U6 Tigers Yellow 44 V Sharks Red 64

This was a very entertaining game and the 6 debutants; Conor L, Jake C, Molly B, Layken K, Hendrix A and Angelo T were not overawed and all contributed to a pleasing team performance. In the end the Sharks were just too fast and had more enthusiasm but we stayed in the game for a long time and there are plenty of positives for us to take-away from the game. Angelo T was always a threat and scored 4 tries on debut and he was well supported by Arlo G and Jake Mc who scored three tries apiece. Josh D carried the ball forward countless times and Molly B and Jake C will grow in confidence after the experience.

U6 Tigers Yellow 8 V Sharks Green 20

This game was much tighter than the first game with many of the Tigers players backing up again. Logan E and Jake Mc were the try scorers for the Tigers and Logan J made his debut in this game. Joshua D continued his form from the first game, always available to take the ball up and offer a run. A special mention goes out to Conor L who played with a smile on his face throughout both games and looked completely thrilled to be out on the field.

U7 Tigers Blue 12 V Sharks Blue 52

The U7's came up against a very well organised and very fast Sharks team and this showed on the scoreboard. We had a number of players making their debut, including; Hunter W, Hudson A, Toby H and Roseanna Y and all played well, making some good breaks and strong tackles throughout the game. Toby H, Aston G and Zacahary M were the Tigers try scorers and Roseanna Y was a constant threat whenever she had the ball in hand. This was a tough game for our U7's who will look forward to getting a number of players back in the coming weeks.

U7 Tigers Green 4 V Sharks Green 56

With all players backing up in this game it was no surprise that they would struggle in the heat and against a tough tackling Sharks outfit. Roseanna Y scored our only try, which was well deserved after a strong performance across both games. Hunter W, Hudson A, Toby H will all benefit from the experience and we look forward to seeing how this team develops once all players return. We also give a shout-out to Ruby Mc who turned up to cheer her teammates on, despite being in a moon boot.

U11 Tigers Silver 16 V Sharks Silver 8

The U11's gave the Tigers our only victory on the day, winning a close contest against a tough Sharks outfit. Jack N, Zac P, Levi D and Zar M were the try scorers and the whole team played well as a unit despite the number of new faces in the team. Both teams tired in the third and fourth quarters and the game became more of a midfield battle in the latter stages. This is a pleasing result for the U11's and it was pleasing to see the positive impact that all players made to the game and the team culture.

U14 Tigers Silver 0 V Sharks Silver 48

This was a sobering result for the U14's who came up against a stronger, more physical and more energetic Sharks team. The Tigers fielded 7 debutants; Max C, Kye C, Dylan K, Cody L, Coby W, Bailey M and Alex M who all played well and will be better for having a game together. Blake B made some important tackles, especially against the Sharks big men, Coby W was impressive given this was his first ever rugby league game and Luke H played well at dummy half and gave a confident performance. The U14's will come back stronger from this game and we look forward to an immediate response next week.
