Pre-Season Trials-March 25, 2023

Footy's Back

The grass is cut, the lines are marked and the match-day banners are fluttering in the wind. Fourteen teams take to the field this weekend in the first round of pre-season games at Yarrawarrah Reserve. For some it will be their first taste of footy, while others will be pulling on the jersey hoping to go one better this year. Whether it's a first gamer or an old hand, the excitement still exists and everyone will go into the weekend with a few nerves and big expectations for the new season.

Enjoy the reports and galleries from the day below.

Tigers U6 32 Roosters U6 32

In what was an open and exciting game between two evenly matched teams, a 32-32 scoreline was a fair result for both teams. The Tigers opened the scoring and then both teams went try for try for the remainder of the game. Danny, Caden, Kingston, and Zac all put in strong performances for the Tigers with Conor, Ollie, Logan and Ethan playing exceptional games in attack and defence. The Tigers played a great team game with every player making a contribution and all playing with smiles on their faces.

Tigers U7 28 Roosters U7 44

The Tigers were undermanned for this game with Conor Lehane agreeing to play up to help out the team. The Tigers started slowly and looked a bit overwhelmed against quicker and bigger opponents. Once they found their feet they started to play as a team and did well to stay close to the Roosters up to half-time. Hendrix and Daniel made plenty of runs and Jake and Robert were covering well in defence. In the last quarter the Tigers made up a little ground with a couple of quick tries and overall it was a pleasing performance by the team.

Tigers U8 12 Roosters U8 36

The Tiger's U8's were also short in numbers and Jake McMillan agreed to play up and help out the team. The Roosters got off to a flying start putting on two quick tries and their speed off the line pressured the Tigers into mistakes. The Tigers were struggling to adjust to the new rules and often lost momentum at the play the ball. The three tries scored by the Tigers were all eye-catching solo efforts by Hendrix, Oscar and Jake and the team will be better for the game.

Tigers U9 32 Tigers U9 16

In an in-house training tops versus playing jerseys game, there was plenty of good news for the U9's going into the new season. The new players added pace and guile and the returning players looked stronger and quicker.

Tigers U13 12 V Roosters U13 20

The Roosters had eleven players and the Tigers agreed to field the same number for the game. In what proved to be a game of two halves, The Tigers were up three tries to nil in the first half and seemed to be coasting before the Roosters scored five tries to nil in the second and run out winners. There were plenty of positives for the Tigers and with both teams playing next week, they will be able to work on combinations and defence.

Tigers O35 16 Roosters O35 24

The Tigers inaugural league tag game in this age group was a close affair and the sound of creaking limbs and joints could be heard all over the Shire. There was a vocal crowd of partners, mothers and children watching the game, with screams and laughter in equal measure, every time a Tiger player touched the ball. The Tigers did very well considering this was their first game together and there was enough footwork (albeit slow) to worry the opposition throughout the season.

Tigers U16 20 Crocs U16 0

In what was a carnival atmosphere at Scylla Oval the U16's continued their good form from last week beating a strong Como Crocs team and holding them scoreless. Tries to Jacob, Kobi (2), Kade and Fintan capped off a dominant display from the U16's who looked fit, committed and up to every challenge the Crocs through at them.
