This weekend most of our teams were playing their first home game of 2020, at the famous Yarrawarrah Oval, and the excitement about running out on the field to Survivors-Eye of the Tiger, was hard to contain. After last weeks results, many of the Tigers teams were looking to make amends on the scoreboard. Despite home advantage, this was going to be a difficult task as the draw pitted us against some strong opposition again.

Against a grey backdrop and freezing temperatures the football certainly kept us warm and provided added sparkle to a cold Sydney winters day. Two teams recorded their first wins of the season and it was great to hear the club song, sang loudly by all players.

U6 Blue Engadine Dragons 56 Yarrawarrah Tigers 24

The Under 6 Blue team were up against a highly skilled and well drilled Engadine Dragons outfit that had played together for a couple of years. Malachi, Logan and Hayden all played strong games and made some great tackles. Aston Gibbons was awarded Player of the Game scoring 4 tries and stopping a break-away try with a fantastic tackle. The whole team tackled well and there was a vast improvement in confidence and positioning from the whole team.

U6 Yellow Aquinas Colts 56 Yarrawarrah Tigers 60

The Under 6 Yellow team are quickly getting a name as the Entertainers. 116 points and another fantastic game against a good Aquinas team. Charlize, Sonny and Charlotte all had strong games and Sonny scored a length of the field try that would not have been out of place in the NRL. Charlotte was Player of the Game scoring 4 tries and looking a constant threat whenever she had the ball. Charlize chipped in with 4 tries and Kade scored a hat trick. There were some great runs made by Jake and Marley and the girls again hunted as a pack, tackling anything and everybody who crossed their path.

Gymea Gorillas 52 Yarrawarrah Tigers 0

The Under 7 Red team came up against a very strong Gorilla team today and their extra skill and experience showed. The team never gave up and kept playing till the end and showed plenty of spirit despite the heavy loss. Jaimee-May had another strong game and tackled well with Harrison. Lennix made some great line breaks and ran straight all game and was awarded Player of the Game for his efforts. Aston, Flynn and Hayden also had good games and made some great side line runs throughout the game.

Taren Point/Tigers 38 Engadine Dragons 10

We welcomed the merged Tiger/Titans U9 team back to Yarrawarrah Oval and running out to Eye of the Tiger really inspired this team as they had a great victory against a strong Dragons team. The whole team was a constant threat and there were some great runs made by Logan, Cooper and Ethan that had the Dragons defenders on the back foot. Alexander Borg was Player of the Game scoring 2 tries and providing some great support play to the rest of the team. Aarlan Taylor chipped in with 3 tries and Ethan Martin's kicking was incredibly consistent.

De La Salle 50 Yarrawarrah Tigers 0 (Mercy Rule Applied)

The Under 10 team played against the De La Salle club again this week and unfortunately last weeks heroics could not be continued into week 2. This De La Salle (1) team is very strong, well drilled and highly skilful and they are certainly the team to beat in this years competition. The 10's gave their all and despite some strong runs and good defence the De La team were just too strong and too powerful to keep at bay for any period. Coach Cowie asked the referee to apply the mercy rule as it was quickly becoming one way traffic. Head's up 10's and hopefully a better showing in week 3.

Taren Point Titans 37 Yarrawarrah Tigers 6

The U13 team tasted defeat to a quality Titans outfit who were just too strong and too mobile up the middle of the park. The Tigers had chances but could never really get on top as the Titans dug deep and scored tries at crucial times throughout the game. Albie Lamaro was awarded Player of the Game for another strong showing and his defensive partner Harrison Melbourne also showed plenty of energy with constant bursts out of defence. Ashton made his first start in a Tigers jersey and had a solid game with some strong runs. Despite another defeat there are signs that the 13's can rediscover their form of 2019 and a win is just around the corner.

2 wins out of 6 was not quite the way we were hoping the weekend would go but it was great to be back at Yarrawarrah Oval. There was some fantastic footy played by all teams and all games were played in a positive spirit. There were some notable individual efforts and some great tries and despite the losses all teams competed well and showed plenty of promise to work on for next weeks matches.

Please check out a few of our favourite photos from the weekend in the gallery below, and many thanks to all the parents for sharing your photos, so we could put the Match Day report together.
